Bloggers beware according to titorolly and bat
Dear mouse,
No call from my friend.
A Singaporean graduate student has been forced to close his weblog under threat of a potentially ruinous defamation suit from the government A*Star agency for science, research and technology.
Chen Jiahao, who goes by the online name AcidFlask, closed down his weblog caustic.soda after A*Star threatened legal action. Chen had revealed the unfairness of the system of state loans for undergraduate studies – appropriately known as bonding - in comments to the media and on his blog. He had also commented on publicly accessible statistics that showed that Singapore's investment in research produced much paper, but little result in terms of peer review credit. The site has now closed and links to an apology to A*Star and its chairman Philip Yeo that reads in part: "The price of maintaining the content which used to be accessible at this URL has become too high for the author to afford."
haay buhay, pag lukso, hipon.

isn't it there is a law in Spore that no can criticize the govt! i don't see any defamatory statement, unless what the blogger is saying is not true. the only thing that i have seen is that the statement is a criticism againts the Spore gov't. i showed this info to the law firm where I work during the day, the lawyers just laugh and said "very typical" and smiled at me and said.."i still love America".
oo ng ate cat. gusto kong marining sa ating mga kaibigang abogado kung ano ang kanilang say dito - sa blogging world, parang pushing the envelope tayo. medyo bata pa at wala yung limits, restrictions ng formal journalism (at least wala pa ngayon).
Hello Ca T! Based on this, totoo nga yung sinabi nung isang tao sa akin na nagtratrabaho sa ibang Asian country. Meron pang mas corrupt kesa sa atin, but the difference is they manage their corruption well. They take care of their own. Dito sa atin, talagang national news ang statements against the government, a-la showbiz pa ang approach!
I saw something similar to this. Check it out. http://www.livejournal.com/users/anniesj/331112.html
titorolly,
The authorities in Singapore are just too sensitive. They cannot take criticism.
wow that's amazing!
