CHECKMATE

Dear Mouse,
It was only upon watching Jeopardy when I learned that checkmate was the term used when the THE KING ELVIS PRESLEY died some years ago.

I may be injecting humor, (lots of it by the way) when I make commentaries about the coming election, the issues and the candidates but I am seriously observing the political strategies of each camp even at the start of the campaign period.

At this point, if I am going to believe what I see and hear, I would like to use the term CHECKMATE again. Again it applies to a king. A king in a high profile chess game, POE, DA KING.
Like the magician in the party i attended, the candidates' handlers would like us to see what he wanted us to see, an illusion. An illusion that it is their candidate is already the winner.

The handlers of Gloria played the chess so well that its black pieces are slowly advancing to the White King for a possible check and finally mate after May 10.

GMA's team attacked head on. When the survey showed that Poe was ahead, they did not stop not until the surveys showed results that gave her a significant percentage lead.

Poe made use of his stars connections. So did she. He is an entertainer trying to fit in a shoe of a leader of a nation but he croaks and he tantrums. Currently the head of the nation, she wears the hat of an entertainer in order to keep the shoes; she dances, she sings and duets with movie personalities.

While Poe was inhibiting himself from the media, GMA made her self visible by accepting invitations in graduations, concerts, talk shows and welcomed interviews.

Blunders upon blunders, he weakened in terms of position in the board. He visited the Marcoses, he fights with the media people, he boycotted his own rallies, he simply disappears when he is pissed off.

Some columnists still see him as the reluctant candidate who do not want to become politician; much more a trapo.

The cat sez, he is not. He is just an overgrown boy with a big ego of a star. He stood on his stance that if they like him to win, the handlers should show that he is really going to win....like a big crowd, alibis for non-platforms and interviews. He made the stage a shooting where nobody should upstage him .

As to Eddie V., Ping L and Raul Roco? I intentionally excluded them. As I have written earlier, I want to comment the way the media present the presidential candidates, a few days counting before the election---the fight is just between DA KING and DA QUEEN.
